In 2005, Belmont Lofts LLC purchased a 1908 four square home with 20 1960’s era apartment units attached to the rear. The partnership designed an eight-unit luxury loft development, while completing a renovation and preservation to the four square. Special attention was paid to the historic overlay in the neighborhood. Massing and scale were deliberately subordinate to the historic structure. Construction methods pushed commercial and green practices rarely seen on small-scale, multi-family projects. Post tension core floors with steel beams add to the industrial character of the living quarters. SIPS panels were used on the roof, adding maximum insulation. This project was awarded the Urban Land Institute award of design excellence.
